The Chalewote Streets Arts Festival is an annual contemporary festival. It is celebrated in Accra, the capital of Ghana. It is a parade of contemporary visual artists and a display of African Culture. The venue was the Highstreet of Ga Mashie, the capital of the Ga Traditional area and the colonial capital of the then Gold Coast. It is currently being celebrated at the Blackstar Square and the Christiansburg Castle in Osu, six (6) kilometers from Ga Mashie.
With Exhibitions, food, lectures, film and music, the festival is held in August, a week after the Homowo festival of the people of Ga Mashie. The festival brings together art lovers, festival goers and history lovers.
ChaleWote” literally means “Buddy let’s go”. Chale—buddy. “Wote” is a Ga word, meaning, ” Let us go.”
