Press Release

The Koo Nimo Legacy Foundation is honoured to celebrate the 95th birthday of Agya Koo
Nimo, also called Daniel Boamponsem who was born on 27th of January 1931. Revered
music icon, cultural ambassador, and UNESCO Living Human Treasure
, Agya Koo Nimo
whose lifelong contributions have shaped traditional music and inspired generations in
Ghana and across the world.

In keeping with the wishes of the icon and his family, and in reverence of tradition as we
mourn the passing of our daughter, Akua Amponsah, the Foundation will observe this
birthday in a solemn and private manner. We respectfully appeal to all media houses, wellwishers, and members of the general public to observe this period in the same spirit.
Reflecting on the significance of this milestone, the Foundation draws inspiration from Agya
Koo Nimo’s song ‘Old Man Plants Coconut Tree’.

“An old man plants a coconut tree, not for himself but for generations unborn.”

The Koo Nimo Legacy Foundation is pleased to announce that a series of commemorative
activities and events will be rolled out throughout the year to honour his enduring legacy.
These initiatives will celebrate his life, works, and lasting impact through curated cultural
programs, educational engagements, and legacy-driven projects both at home and
international.

The Foundation invites cultural institutions, music lovers, scholars, and the general public
to join us throughout the year in celebrating a life that has given so much to Ghana and the
world.
